LEEA (Lifting Equipment Engineers Association) is an association of entities that are in some manner involved with hoisting and lifting equipment. The association includes designers, manufacturers, sellers, inspection entities and maintenance entities for hoisting equipment. Ever since it was established almost seventy years ago, LEEA has played a key role in the training of employees of companies responsible for the inspection of hoisting equipment together with formulating the standards currently in effect.
LEEA has also been involved in creating legislation and addressing safety issues pertaining to hoisting equipment. In order to gain LEEA accreditation, the companies in question must provide evidence that they work in accordance with effective standards, such as with regard to the traceability of their goods, as well as having the equipment and facilities to perform inspections. After such examination by LEEA, employees of the company in question must attend training courses held by LEEA and show their knowledge at the end of such courses through a written examination to gain LEEA accreditation.
In the autumn of 2010, Ísfell was inspected by LEEA. Following this inspection, Ingimar H. Halldórsson and Hjörtur Cýrusson, employees of Ísfell, attended courses held by LEEA. These involved, on the one hand, foundation courses and, on the other, general courses on lifting equipment (Lifting Equipment General). In short, both employees passed these tests comfortably and, on the completion of the latter course, were issued with certification by LEEA that certifies them to inspect and test lifting equipment.
Ísfell employees have decades of experience in the sale, inspection and maintenance of lifting equipment. As of 2006, Ísfell has offered comprehensive inspections of all lifting equipment within companies together with offering customers training courses in the use and treatment of lifting equipment. With the accreditation from LEEA, Ísfell has gained international accreditation as a lifting equipment inspection entity and can inspect equipment anywhere in the world.
This service has been well received by customers and Ísfell is currently responsible for inspecting the lifting equipment of Rio Tinto Alcan, Jarðboranir, Norðurál, Eimskip, Elkem and others.
